About the Artist
Hello! My name is Maureen Patricia. I have been creating fused glass since 2009. I love everything about glass! I love the way it plays with light. I love how versatile it is! I started out making only pendants and have slowly morphed into this amazing small business venture. Each of my pieces is made with attention to detail and I always want to assure the quality of my creations. Every piece is a unique one-of-a-kind.
Inspiration
I started out creating only pendants for family and friends, then started, at their insistence, selling them. Eventually, I was able to get my own kiln and set up a small glass studio in my own home. I have been learning and creating all kinds of different methods and techniques. Glass is such a versatile medium and I like to experiment in my studio.
Back in the beginning, it all started with a stained glass class at a local glass art studio. While working on a project, there were a group of women creating fused glass pendants. I was in awe of them! They were shiny and colourful and I just knew that I needed to learn how this was done.
Fused glass is done in a kiln using controlled heat. The glass is slowly brought up to a temperature between 1300-1500 degrees F. It is then annealed to bring the atoms back to a steady pace to relieve the internal stresses of the glass.
